Discover Thesprotia has been developed in the framework of the project "HERA" that is co-financed by the IPA Adriatic Cross-Border Cooperation Programme with main purpose to promote Thesprotia’s rich cultural heritage and tourism potential. In the site you will find useful information for thematic tourism routes (gastronomy, culture, nature, etc.) and points of interest of the territory.
Thesprotia is a regional unit of Epirus. Its capital is the town of Igoumenitsa which is a significant local and international port. Thesprotia is a mountainous area shaped by the west mountain chain of Pindos, which gradually lowers towards the Ionian Sea. Among these sierras, small and oblong valleys open, crossed by the rivers of Kalamas & Acheron which outfall in the sea.
Although the largest part of Thesprotia is mountainous, there is a 60-km coastline with marvellous beaches, stretching from Sagiada in the North to Parga in the South. The turquoise waters of the Ionian Sea wash the entire western coast, creating endless sandy beaches, picturesque coves and little harbours awaiting to be discovered!
